It can be a pretty happy place! Of course this relates to work. Since I've been on days I feel more burned out than when I was on the evening shift and staying up till 2am. Why? I think it may be the 40 + hours each week and the getting up before the sun does? Well I had hoped to go back to a 32 hour zero weekend shift and yup, you know it, I GOT MY WAY.
When all these changes from the new company came down I had the sneaking suspicion that our weekend evening shift person would quit again. Well she did and thus the double weekend position opened up.
What that means for me is, NO WEEKEND shifts. It also meant that the girl taking them would be one shift from the 40 hours that she wanted so, of course being the nice person that I am, I offered her my Wednesday day shift. So now I am back to my original Mon Tue Thur Fri week... except on days!
I am thinking I will start to feel better and my foot will get the much needed break it deserves.

Is now the time for health IT?
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) released statistics which showed that 81% of the nation’s hospitals and 41% of office-based physicians intend to register for federal incentive payments for adoption & meaningful use of certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) technology. David Blumenthal, national coordinator for health IT, in keeping true to staying abreast of technology posted a YouTube speech in which he laid out the work that was being done by the ONC & the promising statistics for Health IT Implementation. Realizing that changing ones practice around is a big investment with much hard work, Dr. Blumenthal encouraged those still on the sidelines that : "Now is the time. ... Never again will the same level of resources and talent be devoted to helping providers make the switch to health IT."
For those small primary care practices, where the vast majority of physicians work, hoping to move to the next step in medicine, NOW IS THE TIME FOR HEALTH IT!
Personally, I would want receive the carrot (incentive payments) rather than having to just end up with the stick (the post incentive penalties). That is why I’m perplexed at why the percentage of office based physicians in the statistics are so low.
I’m curious to hear what you think. What are some reasons you believe that only 41% of office-based physicians intend to register for the federal incentive program? Is it the time? The investment? The cost? Or something else?
Cudos
Pat me on the back and color me speachless. The DON, ADON, RN charge and the power trip happy supply person (that is a post all in itself), all commented on my GREAT interventions on the care plan of our recent fallguy.
Yeah me! Its nice to know that 1 - this careplan class is actully sinking in & 2 that after nearly 10 months of nursing experience, I can actually apply that boring careplan crap on my own!

Wow its been awhile
Seriously I haven't posted anything for over 10 days? Could it be that I am really busy? LOL Well I have been at work for pretty much all of it, but have managed to wiggle my way into a two day off mini-vaca for today and tomorrow and then I work Friday and am off the weekend. I need to get somethings around this house cleaned and in order. Like my room. I have new curtains and things for the walls and still have them in boxes.
I have bills to pay, addresses to change still (I have lived here since Aug), I have checking accounts to close, direct deposits to switch,I have endless laundry to catch up on.
I have school work to do, studying I must start and tests to book and complete.
Work sucks! This new company and all the changes right now are crazy to graspwhen thrown at you all at once. Here's a paper consider it an in service, now use it without error. Oh and about 40 different people will be watching you to make sure that you don't mess it up or any of the other 1200 new responsibilities we have given you along with your 30 residents with NO standing orders... Naw... you can handle it.

Forget Much
So I am studying and realize I have totally forgotten about to do ABGs. I mean in nursing school the first time around it clicked and I rocked it. Then I sat down and tried to remember how and GONE. Same with some of the dosage and calculations. I mean damn you totally lose so much information. That use it or lose it is true. I have learned so many other things this years since graduation but still... it sucks. I'm sure it'll click again with a review through my LPN tic-tack-toe notes.
Ok so off to more studying.

School of Nursing Scholarship
Financial Aid for Nursing Schools - Part 1 Nursing School Scholarships
Luckily there quite a few nursing school scholarships available. Government scholarship funding is generously allocated to nursing programs across the country. Nearly every state has some kind of grant or nursing school scholarship program available for prospective and continuing nursing students.
There is also an ample source of private foundations that offer one-time and continuing nursing school scholarships. Private and professional organizations often offer scholarship support as well. Even the five military branches offer scholarships for enlisted personnel (sometimes even their immediate families) who wish to obtain a degree in nursing.
Need-based Scholarships
Need-based nursing scholarships are awarded based on the financial need of the prospective or continuing student or to members of social groups that have poor representation (in numbers of enrolled students) in colleges and universities. Some need-based scholarships focus on specific ethnic groups, such as Hispanic, Arabic, Japanese or African American. These nursing scholarships are also available to people with disabilities.
Merit-Based Scholarships
Merit-based nursing scholarships are awarded by a either a college or university or sometimes a private group or foundation. These scholarships often require a lengthy essay or an in-person interview with their scholarship committee that is in charge of selecting the scholarship recipients. Prospective nursing students are often required to submit a reference letter from an employer or past (or current) teacher to the scholarship committee. Recipients are determined by the scholarship committee based on student's past and current academic achievements sometimes considering the student's participation in a type of community service.
Service-Based Scholarships
Th United States government often sponsors nursing scholarships to students. The U.S. government also has various nursing scholarships in the Veterans Affairs Health Careers and the National Health Service Corps. After graduation, recipients of nursing school scholarships are then required to fulfill their contract with the U.S. government and serve between two and eight years in one of the five military branches, depending on the agreed upon arrangement when the scholarship was obtained.
Nursing school scholarships can be found in:
Professional Scholarship Associations
Government and Military Scholarship programs
Private foundations
Professional Association Scholarships
Many professional groups have an interest in producing and hopefully obtaining well educated graduates in the nursing field. Often professional organization hopes the nurse they invested in will return their investment by studying research, current trends and advancements in various technologies that could positively affect their patient holdings. With this methodology, professional associations often encourage the best qualified candidates to reach their nursing school goals.
Professional associations can also be based on educational history. They often draw upon or consult The American Association of Colleges of Nursing who connect professionals in colleges and universities.
Organizations of this nature can also emphasize certain locations to special experiences. Their financial aid awards can be limited in scope.
Government and Military Scholarships
The United States government offers nursing scholarships to students across the nation. The National Health Service Corps encourages students to serve in struggling locations in return for financial aid. The Us Department of Health also sponsors several forms financial aid to nursing students.
Any of the five U.S. military branches may also offer financial aid for nursing students. Most often, students must be ROTC members. The Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy all offer financial aid to assist with nursing schools.
While this list has only cursively discussed the opportunities available to those interested in getting a degree in nursing, there are many more avenues and combinations of scholarships that can be explored. In subsequent articles we will discuss nursing grants and repayable financial aid.
Thankfully for the prospective nursing student, nursing is a field that has an abundance of scholarships and grants available. This article covers one specific avenue available to prospective nursing students and that is the nursing school scholarship. Subsequent articles cover grants and other forms of financial aid available to nursing students.
To begin, scholarships basically fall into three main categories: need-based, merit-based or what is referred to as "service-based".

Bad Blogger
I just really haven't had much to blog about. I am torn between what I want to do and being the procrastinator that I am. I have moved forward with school though, but I really want to go the Community College route, because I actually miss the style, I get excited and then stressed about it at the same time. Too much jumping through hoops. I just want to be RN eligible soon!... Of course Working 40 hours and going to school another 20 + a week is just too daunting to think about. So I am pretty much on the same route I was heading. Right now I am in a Nursing Process and Careplanning class, which ends the end of February. BORING! Then its Transitions to the RN role which ends the end of April. BORING! Then its Maternal Health and Reproduction which ends the end of June.
Work is work. We have a very low census right now, the new owners have been cleaning house with Management and there is just a gloom and doom sense all over the building. Soooo many changes.
I am in search of another copy of Office 2007 because the damn cat pushed it off the kitchen table and the damn puppy ate it! The cheapest I could find it was $114. But damn even that is pricey.
Hummmm... what else? Oh I have been reading alot. Finished a whole series and started a new one by Rick Riordan and was going to start through the various works of Jane Austin but MUST get studying done. So I put the Nook aside for a few weeks. I have a test on the 28th I need to get ready for.
